Summer Hair 2013
Summer Hair 2013
Summer is in full swing and so is the summer hair. Earlier in the year the fashion catwalks forecasted a particularly eclectic mix of beautiful summer barnets, solidifying SS13 as a season with something to suit every woman. Whether you’re considering new hairstyles for summer, or looking for fresh ways to wear your locks, then here’s what’s hot right now
Long flowing locks are certainly key to many of this season’s looks, particularly with soft layering. Partings are centred, or to the side with a pretty swept fringe. Whilst long tresses certainly give you more versatility when it comes to summer hair trends, short haired beauties needn’t fear – pixie cuts and androgynous crops are in vogue too.
If the SS13 shows lacked anything, it certainly wasn’t the gorgeous range of hair colours on show. If you’re something of a colour chameleon, then consider giving a little sun kiss to your layers with some subtle highlights. For brunettes look to delicious caramel hues, for raven haired beauties bring a little sunset to your ends with a coppery ombre dip dye like Khloi Kardashians. If you’re a blonde that wants to have a little more fun, then why not got all-the-way bleach blonde? For a fashion-forward finish, rock it with dark brows and don’t be afraid to let those roots show.
Need a change? Blonde, brunette, or black? If you’re looking for a complete colour overhaul this summer and don’t know what shade to go, then consider one of the most popular hues for summer hair 2013 – auburn.
Ponytails & Buns: Whilst beautiful buns and sleek ‘n’ neat ponytails sauntered up and down Chanel’s SS13 catwalk, many designers went the opposite way – opting for something a lot less neat. Careless ponytails, botched buns and grungy undoing up-dos are amongst this season’s biggest summer hair trends.
Messy Bed-Head Hair: Hairstyles for summer needn’t take you much time. In fact, a just-out-of-bed dishevelled mane is one of the hottest looks right now, up or down.
60’s Inspired: Feeling a little retro? An imperfect Brigitte Bardot beehive is perfect accessory for some old-styled summer lovin’. Pair it with a berry-coloured lipstick and watch the boys fall at your feet.
Straight: If the careless nature of some of this season’s looks ruffles your feathers a little bit, then good news – straight hair is in too! Whether tied back in a prim low-slung ponytail (as seen with Chanel) or down and flowing, neat and respectable is a permanent fashion fixture.
Regardless of style, the biggest trend for summer hair is healthy looking locks. When it comes to looking after hair in summer, heat and dryness are your main opponents. Beat the frizzy split ends with a fresh cut once a month, and ward off the heat styling damage by limiting your use of straighteners, curling irons and blow dryers – using heat protective products when you do. If you have time of course, then it’s always best to let the warmer weather dry your tresses naturally. If you’re heading out for a day on the beach, then take the Ashley Olsen approach by applying a deep conditioner to wet hair before you head out. Leaving in conditioner is a great way of looking after hair in summer and will provide you with optimum protection from the drying sun, whilst the heat will open up your hair’s cuticles and allow the conditioner to penetrate better. Finally, treat your hair to a conditioning mask at least once a week, for a glossy, healthy looking mane that any mermaid would be envious of.
